Quick.
As computers have gotten bigger and faster, most software has gotten fatter and slower.  The net result has been little increase in real performance.  Our programs are still built for speed, using proven efficiency enhancing techniques forgotten by most developers.  We even test our software on older 486 machines in order to find and optimize inefficient code.  If it screams at 50 Mhz, imagine what it will do at 1000.
If it doesn't flat-out boogie, then it isn't yesware.

Truly "faster than a speeding bullet," the SR-71 Blackbirds were built in the 1960's.  Thirty years later, they still hold the speed record for jet powered aircraft.  Most aerospace engineers agree that this is "forgotten technology", and that we could not build a comparable airplane today.
